This is just a marketing ploy. Did you guys not see this? I very seriously doubt that very many of "them" are buying this in boycott of the Heinz family name. "They" usually care more about the quality of the product than any political affiliation the owners of said product have. "They" are not normally swayed by propaganda. "They" are also not won over by hatred of a specific person. Man, I could say so much more, but I won't. Please do not bash people because of their choice of political parties. Do not be a bigot. This is the same thing as racism. It is equally ignorant. It could be said that the Democratic party ruined West Virginia, but that would be a lie. It was the liars, idiots, and thieves that got into office that has made WV one of the worst economies in the nation. It is the old boy politics that have hampered us from growth. It is the people in power (*cough* democrats and republicans *cough*) that don't want to reliquish that power that have brought WV to its knees. So again please, do not lay all the ills of this great nation at the feet of one group of people. Or if you do, start your own political party called Nazi's and let the truth come out.

"Your parents must be very proud."
"A little tasteless I think."

Thank you on both counts.

"What's really funny though is that over the past 7 years, the Heinz Corporation has given twice as much money to Republican candidates than Democratic candidates. So they're really only hurting themselves by boycotting Heinz ketchup!"

Let's take a quick look at what you said. The 'they' in the second sentence was referring to the Republicans who would buy this. I am fairly certain you didn't mean that Democrats would be boycotting Heinz as they receive less money than the Republicans.

"Obviously if I say "they", I think a reasonable person would infer that I mean the people who might actually buy into this marketing ploy, not people who just happen to be Republicans (for instance my brilliant father)."

Who else but Republicans? This is geared toward them. As you said yourself, "they" would only be hurting themselves. Maybe you meant Green Party? Or Libertarian, Constitution, and Reform Parties? But no, none of these were involved with your statement of receiving funds. Logically, you are not making any sense. As for the Nazi party thing (other than the fact that there is an American Nazi political party), what other reference would you have me use. Yugoslavia? Sudan? Maybe a little closer to home and use the KKK? They all use(d) one type of person as a scape goat. Sure your reference is harmless enough, but just as racial jokes are harmless.

Now in fairness, I must say that I have been awfully harsh on you. I apologize if I have hurt your feelings. My point was not to insult you, but to make you more aware of your statements. I will admit that I am one of the last people to be standing on a soapbox, but you statement just struck a cord in me on that day. I am usually not the type to attack anyone on their personal views. If you honestly feel that way, I have no right to tell you that you are wrong. It makes a hypocrite out of me. However, since you have expressed that you do not think that way, hopefully, I have raised your awareness.

No, I do not know you, but I had assumed that you were in WV as you were familiar with maisyday and she is from there. Again, I meant you know ill will in assuming you were from there.

Well Ken, it looks like you finally got some political commentary going. Too bad it wasn't on Essential Expression. Keep it going though--I am enjoying it!

As for anonymous, I know who you are! You didn't do a very good job of hiding it from me. Butt, I will be nice and not give you away to everyone else. :)

I didn't try to hide it from you. I'm just trying to limit the hate mail that comes to my poor old site. I don't even care if your regulars bash me as long as it isn't from some random poster. I get tired of hearing hate. As far as political banter, you should check out...

It is an interesting, if misguided, read. They are a little too much into propaganda for me. Just my two bits worth.

BTW, I really didn't want to sound as mean as I did. To either of you.

Crystal, was it a subliminal mistake that you called your "anonymous" poster "butt?" Either way, pretty funny. :-)
